POWER: Vučić should be able to face the truth about the genocide when he arrives in Srebrenica

Samantha Power, Ambassador of the United States to the United Nations, responding to a question by a correspondent of “Dnevni Avaz” from the United States on what would be her message to Serbian PM Aleksandar Vučić, who will be in Potočari tomorrow, she expressed hope that Vučić in Srebrenica would face the truth about the genocide, and accept it as such.

Vučić has not expressed a willingness to acknowledge the genocide in Srebrenica, and he was among the proponents of the negative Russian attitude towards the Srebrenica resolution in the UN.

“I believe that Serbian Prime Minister, when he comes to Srebrenica, will face the scarves of the mothers, wives and daughters of people who were killed in the genocide by Bosnian Serb forces, who at the time of course had the support from the Serbian government. Certainly, my hope would be that these scarves, the cries and the pain would get through to him and urge him to change his course,” said Power.

She said that the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica is simply incompatible with reconciliation.

“Vučić speaks about the importance of reconciliation, but it cannot be built on genocide denial. It is not compatible. So, it is important that he goes there and it is important to see for himself the results of the devastation caused by the genocide in Srebrenica,” said Power.
