British soldiers practice responding to natural disasters in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A team of British soldiers, members of the 77th Brigade, are in Bosnia and Herzegovina where they will train in responding to natural disasters. This civil-military exercise is hosted by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina in support of Entity Civil Protection Administrations and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The exercise comes as a follow up to a very successful civil-military exercise conducted in March last year which was focused on the Bosnian and Herzegovinian experience of severe floods in 2014.

Natural disasters require specialist knowledge. Within the ranks of 77th Brigade, there are a number of Reservist soldiers who bring their professional skills such as disaster management, medical, media and reconstruction skills to a military environment. The 77th Brigade will engage with the local population, civil protection teams and responsible government officials to learn from their experience.
These joint exercises are strengthening bilateral cooperation between the United Kingdom and Bosnia and Herzegovina in security and defence sectors and are way to improve the ability of both countries to respond to natural disasters in future.
