Raisu-l-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein ef. Kavazović said today in Potočari that the Memorial Center Srebrenica – Potočari is the holiest place for Bosniaks and that all Muslims and those who feel like that should act dignified.
“Today, at this holy place and on this day of our sorrow and pain, we mark the sad and long twenty years since the genocide in Srebrenica against Bosniaks, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters who were killed,” Kavazović said.
He stressed that this day has been deeply carved into the marble stone of our memory and expressed hope that people who love justice are today in Potočari.
“The weight of the atrocities committed in these beautiful region of our country, BiH, obliges us to remember, to face the constant large and undeniable truth, that more than 8,000 innocent people were murdered,” said Kavazović.
He pointed out that simultaneously that Srebrenica symbolizes the hope that these crimes came to an end, and that future generations will not have to gather go to some new killing fields, and this is the biggest message from this place on this day, and much of a concern at this time.
Rais Kavazović published a fatwa to all Muslims, in which, among other things, he emphasized the importance of preserving shaheetluks, especially in areas where genocide was committed.
He added that on the basis of these fatwas the Council of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the supreme religious authority of Muslims in Bosnia, Sandžak, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and the Bosniak diaspora, obliges every Muslim to do what is in their power to eliminate the consequences of genocide. This religious duty has the force of individual and collective obligation for all Muslims.
He called on all Muslim to do good and made great efforts to protect the life, dignity and the protection of families and other people.
After the address of Rais Kavazović, the burial of 136 bodies of killed Bosniaks was performed.
The Holy Quran says: And say not of those who are slain in God's cause, “They are dead”: nay, they are alive, but you perceive it not.(Baqara, 154)
“Srebrenica is a valley of tears today, but it is also the valley of more than 6,000 martyrs. This is the largest congregation of the martyrs”, said Rais Kavazović.
