UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said yesterday at the commemorative session held at the UN headquarters in New York that the monstrous killings of Bosniak men and boys in Srebrenica is a collective stain on the consciousness of the international community and appealed for unity against crime.
“We are here to remember the thousands that lost their lives in the genocide in Srebrenica 20 years ago. We are here to tell the families and friends of victims that we are empathizing with their grief,” Ban said.
UN Secretary-General also talked about his visit to Srebrenica in 2012, adding that he will remember it as long as he lives.
The commemoration on the occasion of the 20th anniversary in Srebrenica at the UN headquarters was organized at the initiative of the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN Mirsada Čolaković.
